History
Leavers Lace has its ancient roots in braids and nets. Lace was developed as an ornamental item back in the 16th century Europe. After an era of handicrafts which was a symbol of wealth and power for royalty and aristocracy, the invention of John Leavers during Industrial Revolution of the 18th century made it possible to manufacture the lace by machine. This invention then crossed the Straits of Dover and blossomed into a French industry.
Rarity
The Leavers Lace machine are no longer reproduceable, and existing ones are owned by very few companies. The tradition has been handed down for more than 200 years by maintaining and using the original machine that was used at the time. This is why Leavers Lace is considered to be so scarce.
